POSITION

UNIT MANAGER THEATRE – BELLVILLE, WESTERN CAPE

REQUIREMENTS:

Current and valid registration with SANC as a Registered Nurse

Post Basic Diploma in Operating Technique

Post Basic Diploma in Nursing Management

5 years Operational Experience in a Theatre Unit

Scrub experience in Cardiothoracic Neurosurgery and Ophthalmology will be advantageous

Previous management experience will be advantageous

Knowledge of Legislative and Occupational Health and Safety requirements

Excellent Leadership qualities and mentoring skills

Excellent computer skills, i.e., MS Office.

Knowledge of Kronos System

Excellent communication, interpersonal, organizational and problem-solving skills

The skill to manage nursing standards and in-service training

Maintain a professional image and character

Build sound working relationships within the multidisciplinary team

Accurate record keeping and the management of stock

Commitment to initiate and implement continuous improvement projects

Valid driver’s license and ability to travel

Afterhours availability - own reliable transport

Work flexitime


KEY OUTPUTS

Manage the day-to-day problem solving

Be Operational as well as manage the administrative duties

Manage the Theatre Department

Liaise and communicate with Surgeons

Management of staff

Always ensure adherence to policies and procedures

Manage staff according to the Basic Conditions of Employment and the Disciplinary Code, staff planning and Recruitment and Selection of staff

Stock and equipment management

Accurate billing of stock utilized

Training and Development of Theatre staff

Maintain health and safety principles

Maintain and apply the required discipline

Evaluation, intervention and resolution of patient complaints and queries

After hours cover as per a roster

Conduct regular inspections

Maintain infection control strategies and procedures of the hospital

Prepare daily, weekly and monthly reports

Manage ad hoc projects as and when required
